The importance of sleep and how PEMF therapy can help to improve yours

Many of us know that feeling of extreme tiredness and a lack of focus due to lack of sleep. Then, when you eventually get to bed, you cannot fall asleep and lie awake for most of the night. A cycle that can continue too long. Let’s break that cycle this year and make this the best sleep-year yet!

Sleep is not only critical for our overall health; we actually need it to survive. It is as important to us as food and water. It is no wonder then that we sleep about a third of our lives. Many of the biological processes we need to survive happen in our bodies when we sleep:

  • Our bodies repair cells and to restore energy and to release hormones and proteins.
  • Nerve cells reorganise and communicate to support healthy brain function.
  • The brain stores new information and also gets rid of toxic waste.

Those struggling with insomnia know all too well the negative impact it has on quality of life and normal functioning.

Unfortunately, the most common treatment for insomnia is prescription medicine which most medical experts agree, should not be taken long-term. While it addresses the problem, it has many possible side effects such as headaches, nausea, next-day-grogginess or in some cases, even addiction.

Research on sleep and sleeping patterns has been going on for centuries, and although there are still some sleep mysteries, what we know about the different biological rhythms, sleep cycles and brainwaves make it possible to successfully use PEMF therapy to support other treatments for sleeping disorders. PEMF therapy simulates the brainwave frequency of the deep-sleep-cycle while you sleep.

Much research has been done on the impact of PEMF therapy on sleeping disorders, and although more research is needed, it is clear from results of a clinical trial done in 2001 in affiliation with the Bundeswehr University in Munich* that at least 70% of subjects battling with some form of insomnia experienced substantial and even complete relief after four weeks of pulsed electromagnetic field therapy.

At Resonance Therapy SA we found that our clients that sleep on a PEMF treatment mat, testified that they fall asleep easier, are able to fall asleep quickly when they wake up in the middle of the night and that they sleep better for longer periods. We must remember though, that PEMF therapy is not a quick fix. Results are best seen after a few weeks’ continuous use, which is why the most cost-effective way to use PEMF therapy for sleeping disorders would be to use a PEMF device at home consistently.

Apart from support to relieve insomnia, PEMF therapy can also support patients to address underlying conditions such as pain, anxiety, restless legs, depression, and a myriad of other health conditions.

We have seen remarkable relief in patients who combined PEMF therapy with the use of doTERRA® essential oils. Because smell is connected to our brains, it has an influence on how our bodies react to it. For instance, doTERRA Serenity® Restful Blend consists of a combination of oils that supports normal melatonin functioning, which is responsible for our sleep-wake cycle. When used while sleeping this can be an aid to a restful night’s sleep. Talk to your Resonance Therapy SA consultant about how you can relieve insomnia naturally and increase your quality of life.
